Just In: Security Operatives Break Into House of Former President Goodluck Jonathan's Brother in Abuja...See Details

Armed security operatives suspected to be men of the Nigerian police on Wednesday broke into the house belonging to former President Good luck Jonathan's brother-in-law in Abuja.

According to confirmed sources, the operatives landed in Gestapo-style and went ahead to search all the rooms in the house. The house invaded by the operatives is located in Maitama, a suburb of Abuja occupied by the rich.

A Premium Times report quoted the spokespersons for the headquarters and Abuja command of the police as saying that the command was not aware of the operation, but security sources confirmed that police officers in uniform carried out the raid.

The house in question was allegedly bought for her brother by Dame Patience Jonathan, who was said to be in Port Harcourt when the raid occurred on Wednesday. The wife of the ex-president has been in vicious war with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the ownership of a controversial $15 million traced to her.

However, sources at the commission said the EFCC did not carry out the raid.

A report by Punch revealed that apart from the private security guards, no other person was within the premises when the policemen arrived.

The policemen numbering more than 20 arrived in three hilux vans and another Toyota Hiace Bus before forcing themselves into the building. They were said to have broken into the building and went away with a brown envelope.

A source told Punch: “Men of the Nigerian Police Force raided the home of the former First Lady, Patience today.

“A reporter from one of the television stations who witnessed the event, was harassed by security officers and her phone seized.

“The operation which took place at the Igbeti Rock street started at about 5pm.

“The policemen came in four vehicles and they also took away one hefty brown envelope. They didn’t speak to us on why they came and the content of the envelope.”
